Earlier this week the winners of the TurfMutt “Be a Backyard Superhero” contest with Scholastic were awarded their BIG checks. Two students won $5,000 each for a green space makeover at their schools!
One of the winning entries is from fourth-grader Kashvi Ramani, of Ashburn, Va. She wrote an original rap song called “Outdoor Saviors.” The rap is about TurfMutt and the Outdoor Powers, and their efforts to take care of our green spaces.
Listen to the rap song, which Kashvi and her fellow classmates at Belmont Elementary performed for the real TurfMutt (Lucky the rescue dog) at a special awards ceremony.
Tomorrow, we’ll share photos from the other grand prize presentation. It was awarded to Ali Tomlinson who attends Playa Vista Elementary School in California. Her entry was “Teamwork Makes The Dream Work,” a story about how TurfMutt and the Outdoor Powers saved a neighborhood.
