TurfMutt is pawsitively bursting with excitement! Today, he attended the awards ceremony in Virginia for Kashvi Ramani. She’s one of the grand prize winners in TurfMutt’s “Be a Backyard Superhero” contest with Scholastic.

Kashvi and the entire fourth grade class at Belmont Station Elementary School performed her original rap song about helping the environment with TurfMutt and the Outdoor Powers. You can learn more and see their performance tonight on Fox 5 DC if you leave near the DC metro area.

Kashvi’s rap titled “Outdoor Saviors” not only got her class and school spotlighted on the local news. It also won the school a $5,000 grant to improve the yards and green space!

The other grand prize winner is Ali Tomlinson of Playa Vista (California) Elementary School. Her entry was “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work.” It’s a story about how TurfMutt and the Outdoor Powers saved a neighborhood.

In addition to these grand prize winners, 50 runners-up in each grade level will receive a book from Scholastic, the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute’s (OPEI) partner on the TurfMutt education program. In total, 790 students entered this year’s contest.

To enter the contest, students had to create an original picture using the TurfMutt character cutouts. Students wrote stories to accompany their artwork. The stories showed how they are Backyard Superheroes who combat environmental villains Carbon Creep, Dust Demon, Dr. Runoff, and Heat Freak while working to save living landscapes.
