Thanksgiving is a time for remembering those things for which we are grateful. Family, friends, health and happiness often top the list of reasons to be thankful. This Thanksgiving, TurfMutt encourages you to also remember these 5 reasons to be green with gratitude…for your lawn.
- A 25-square foot area of turf supplies enough oxygen to support one person for a day, while a turf area 50′ x 50′ produces enough oxygen to meet the daily needs of a family of four.
- Grass is a carbon-fighting machine! Grasses remove about six tons of carbon dioxide per acre per year from the atmosphere.
- Grassy areas mitigate storm water runoff. Acting like a sponge, grass slows down and absorbs runoff, cleanses water of impurities and dust, and recharges groundwater aquifers.
- Grass, trees and shrubs and other plant life provide food and habitat for birds and small mammals. Insects, spiders and worms live among the grass blades and below the surface in the turf.
- Trees and grass foster activities such as recreation and imagination development, which are important for child development.
