TurfMutt wants to wish your entire family a happy and healthy holiday season! That’s why he’s stopping by today with a few important holiday safety reminders for pet parents.
- Fight the urge to feed your dog human food during the holidays…and always. And make sure your guests know this rule, too! Many of the treats on our table – chocolate, bones, and alcoholic beverages just to name a few – are bad for your dog.
- Mistletoe, holly and poinsettias can make your pet sick if he ingests it. Skip these decorations or opt for an artificial version.
- Keep your pet safe and sound during your holiday gathering by giving her a quiet space to which she can retreat. Shy dogs, especially, will appreciate a room away from the party where they can cuddle up. Be sure to have plenty of fresh water available in the space you choose!
- Don’t allow your pets in your gift-wrapping area. String, ribbon, tape and paper can cause intestinal blockages.
- Make sure your pet’s ID tags and microchip registration are up-to-date. Then, if they do sneak out during the holiday craziness they are more likely to find their way back home.
