Today is World Water Day, and TurfMutt has joined forces with Water Warrior (a.k.a. the aquatic avenger!) to remind all of us to be water wise with our living landscapes.
Here are Water Warrior’s top 3 tips.
- Brown is ok. Grass will “turn off” during dry spells, but don’t worry! It’s still healthy. When the rains return, it will green up again.
- Water early and deep. Watering before the hottest parts of the day gets two thumbs up from Water Warrior. Deep watering, less often is the best approach. An inch a week is plenty to make most plants strong and healthy.
- Plant to slow & capture water. Hard surfaces in our cities and neighborhoods don’t do a good job of holding rainwater. Plant grasses, trees and plants to capture the moisture and help recharge our aquifers.
