three dogs in ghost costumes

Halloween is great fun for most families. But for our furry friends, the holiday can be frightening (in a bad way). As you’re prepping for the holiday, here are some TurfMutt tips to keep in  mind to ensure your pets stay safe and happy.

  • Give pets a familiar, secure room to hang out in during trick-or-treating. A cozy crate, bedroom or other quiet space will help keep Fido from freaking out – or worse yet, escaping! – when masked children knock on the door. And, even though taking your pup along for the trick-or-treating on your block may seem like a good idea, they are much safer – and happier – left at home.
  • Don’t feed candy to pets. Keep your treats out of reach of your animals. If they ingest candy accidentally – especially chocolate – contact your vet immediately.
  • Remember, décor can be dangerous. Flames are intriguing to some pets, but could harm them. Even hanging decorations can be a chocking or tangling hazard.
  • Pet costumes are cute, but not every pet loves to be dressed up. If your furry friend isn’t a fan of costumes, don’t force her to participate.
