Teachers and parents who have a hard time getting their kids to focus on schoolwork should consider taking children outside for lessons and homework. According to a new study conducted by University of Illinois researchers, teaching kids outside improves their ability to concentrate on their schoolwork.
The researchers studied two third-grade classrooms over a 10-week period. Each teacher held one lesson per week outdoors. Researchers found that in the period following an outdoor lesson, the teachers were able to teach uninterrupted for about twice as long as they could teach after a similar indoor lesson.
It’s just one more reason TurfMutt encourages you to embrace and use your family yard. Set up an outdoor area where your kids can do their homework (weather permitting, of course!). Then, share a photo of your outdoor classroom on TurfMutt’s Facebook or Twitter page!
