National Dog Week is celebrated the last full week of September. Here are some TurfMutt-approved ways to help you honor your hound this week by spending time in our living landscapes.
Take a walk. Dogs love to go on walks with their humans. Pick a new route or check out a community park or nature area that you haven’t visited before. Pro tip: Be sure to leave plenty of time for your pup to sniff the new surroundings!
Spruce up the yard. No one loves your backyard more than your dog. Take some time this week to make your outdoor living room even more appealing for pets and people. Check out TurfMutt’s top tips for creating a pet-friendly yard and visit SaveLivingLandscapes.com for resources and ideas.
Host a backyard paw-ty. In most parts of the country, fall is fabulous for outdoor entertaining. If your dog is good with other people and pets, consider hosting a party in your backyard that is pet and people friendly.
Adopt, don’t shop. If you’re thinking of adding a new dog to your pack, this is a great week to do so. TurfMutt is a strong supporter of adopting rescue animals (did you hear about Lucky’s Mutt Madness adoption event happening next month in Kentucky?). Visit your local humane society to find your new best friend.
Support a rescue organization. Not everyone is in a position to adopt a dog, but there are other ways to help. Lend your time and talents to a local pet rescue organization. Or, check with your favorite pet-related charity to see what donations they need.
We’d love to see how you celebrate your pooch this week. Please share your photos to TurfMutt’s Facebook page or Twitter feed.
