During the era of social distancing and stay-at-home orders, the green space in our own backyards and community green spaces continue to be safe as long as they are used responsibly. Check out this new infographic from the TurfMutt Foundation.

It’s important for people to observe their local stay-at-home orders. When out, stay at least six feet away from people you don’t live with. Don’t gather in large groups, and wear a face mask when in public.
Here are just a few ways you can use your backyard and community green space to de-stress responsibly, even while social distancing.
- Exercise. Play fetch with your dog, or go for a walk. It’s good for you and them!
- Connect. Use your outdoor living room (i.e. your own backyard) to connect with immediate family. Eat outside or hold your kids’ study session under a shade tree.
- Unwind. Nature starts at your backdoor. Find solace by sitting and listening to the nature around you.
- Engage. With schools closed, you can use the green space around you to keep your kids engaged in learning. Going on a nature hunt or wildlife watch are just a couple of ideas. The TurfMutt Foundation has outdoor lesson plans at TurfMutt.com.
- Take care. The physical activity of caring for your lawn and landscape is good for your physical and mental health. Mow the lawn, trim a bush or tree, or plant something.
