Dont’ miss out on OPEI and Discovery Education’s Landscapes Across America contest, ending May 5th.

This Contest is challenging students to illustrate the unique ecosystem attributes in their local region.

3rd to 5th grade classrooms are encouraged to submit a slideshow with digital photos of the unique landscape in their area, and include a written description of what environmental aspects of their region need to be protected.  Tips for creating this slideshow are included in each of TurfMutt’s lesson plans found in the Educator section at Discovery Education.

Do you know a student in 3rd-5th grade or an educator who could share this with their class?

The grand prize classroom winner will receive a $5,000 grant for the teacher to implement an eco-friendly classroom program, a $500 teacher award and trees planted in honor of each member of the class.

Four second-place classroom winners will receive a $500 grant for the teacher to implement an eco-friendly classroom program and trees planted in honor of each member of the class.

All five presentations will be incorporated into the U.S. ecosystems map once the winners are announced.

Submissions must be made by a teacher of grades 3-5.

Enter now through May 5, 2011 by 5pm EST. Winners will be announced on or about May 19, 2011.
