TurfMutt is excited to announce the annual “Be a Backyard Superhero” essay contest. Kids in grades K through 5 are invited to enter an essay for the chance to win a $5,000 grant for a “green space makeover” at their school.

For the contest, a parent, legal guardian or teacher will have his or her child/student in grades K through 5 create an original picture using the character cutouts. Then, the child will write a story about how he/she is a Backyard Superhero like TurfMutt and the Outdoor Powers. These superheroes combat the Environmental Villains – Carbon Creep, Dust Demon, Dr. Runoff and Heat Freak – saving living landscapes everywhere.

For students in grades K-2, the story should be 25-50 words long. Students in grades 3-5 must submit a 100-150 word story.

The entries may only be submitted electronically or via mail by the student’s teacher, parent or legal guardian. The contest ends on April 6 at 11:59 p.m. Visit www.TurfMutt.com for official rules and to obtain entry information.

Last year’s Be a Backyard Superhero contest was a huge success! Liam E. won for his entry, “TurfMutt Does It Again!” and Jordan E. won in her age category for her story “How to Be a Backyard Superhero.”
