Everyone’s thinking “green” because of the St. Patrick’s Day holiday. But it’s not just about green food and clothing. What about the green space in your yard?
TurfMutt thinks your living landscapes should be celebrated today, as well! In that spirit, here are TurfMutt’s top 3 reasons to love your lawn on St. Patrick’s Day and beyond.
- Grass is good for your health.
Dutch researchers found that people who live within a half mile of green space (parks, public gardens and greenways) had a lower incidence of fifteen diseases — including depression, anxiety, heart disease, diabetes, asthma and migraines.
- Grass is good for the environment.
Grass not only produces oxygen and sequesters carbon, it also filters and cleans the air we breathe and the rainwater that falls. Additionally, lawns dissipate the heat island effect in urban areas, thanks to a process called evapotranspiration.
- Grass is good for animals & kids.
Even in highly populated urban areas, your lawn contains worms, insects and other creatures that are part of the life cycle. Pollinators like bees, birds and wildlife depend on home lawns for habitat and sustenance. Outdoor play areas also increase fitness levels and build active, healthy bodies for your kids and pets.
