Today is National S’mores Day. And, what would s’mores be without an outdoor area or backyard in which to grill up this gooey goodie? In honor of this all-American treat, TurfMutt dug up some fun facts about the scrumptious s’more.
- A traditional s’more consists of a roasted marshmallow (debate rules about how toasty to get the marshmallow!) and a piece of chocolate sandwiched between two pieces of graham cracker. However, some people add peanut butter and even banana to up the gooey factor.
- A fireside must, S’mores were first mentioned in the Girl Scout handbook back in 1927.
- According to folklore, S’mores got its name when after eating one around the campfire children immediately asked for “some more!”
- Dogs cannot eat chocolate, but here’s a recipe that substitutes carob powder for a delicious dog version of this “delicacy!”
