How snow helps living landscapes

We can all agree that shoveling snow is no fun. But did you know that snow has a lot of benefits for your living landscapes? (Not to mention, kids and pets like Lucky, the real life TurfMutt, love to play in it!)

• Insulates soil. Snow helps protect the roots of your trees and shrubs by insulating the soil and keeping it from freezing deep where the roots lie.
• Protects plants. That same insulating effect keeps your other plants and ground covers from freezing, thawing and then freezing again, which can damage roots.
• Guards grass. Cold wind can be hard on your lawn, but a snow covering will help protect it.
• Provides moisture. When the snow melts it provides much-needed moisture to your plants, grass and other living landscapes.
• Creates beauty. Another major benefit of snow is the beauty it creates. Evergreen shrubs and trees simply pop against a canvas of white!
