Now more than ever we need a safe place to find respite, solace, fresh air, physical activity, and connection to nature. Our yards and community green spaces, when visited responsibly, offer a safe place to de-stress even while social distancing.
Check out this infographic for tips on using green spaces responsibly.
Here are just a few ways you can safely use your yard and community parks to de-stress.
- Exercise. Throw a ball to your dog or go for a short walk.
- Engage kids. Keep kids entertained and learning by going on a nature hunt. You can get outdoor lesson plans at com.
- Plant something. Remember to put the right plant in the right place by considering your lifestyle needs and climate zone. Mowing the yard or weeding the garden are other ways to be active in your yard.
- Find solace. Simply sitting and experiencing nature is relaxing. Watch the squirrels play in the tree. Listen to the birds singing. Smell the freshly cut grass.
- Connect. Use the safe space of your “outdoor living room” to connect with immediate family.
Remember to always observe the local recommendations by appropriately physically distancing, wearing a face mask in public, and not gathering in large groups.
