The highly successful TurfMutt program is celebrating its 10-year anniversary by expanding its youth education program to middle schools around the country. For the last decade, TurfMutt has been spreading the message to children, parents and teachers to care for the green space around us and get outside and enjoy it. Now, the program is expanding to include even more students and their families to further promote the health and well-being benefits of being an “outsider”.
New lesson plans and a graphic story, both aimed at middle school youth, explore TurfMutt’s adventures in “saving the planet one yard at a time.” They are designed to inspire students to improve the green spaces around them and help them prepare for The (Really) Great Outdoors Contest. An estimated 18,000 teachers will receive lessons plans and 460,000 students will receive the graphic story, which was included with Science World magazine. “The graphic story is an innovative way to reach this age group with the TurfMutt message, and we are thrilled to see the expanded contest reach a new audience of students,” says Kris Kiser, TurfMutt’s human and the President & CEO of the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI).
Reading the graphic novel will inspire kids to develop their contest entry. No matter where they live (city, country, suburb, house, apartment, school), they can create a nature space. The contest is all about describing what they would do.
Don’t forget – contest entries are due April 24! Learn more and enter at www.TurfMutt.com.
