Did you know that October is Adopt a Dog Month (American Humane), Adopt a Shelter Dog Month (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), and the month that the TurfMutt Foundation hosts its annual adoption event, Lucky’s Mutt Madness?

It seems like October has gone to the dogs, literally! And for a good reason. It is estimated that 3-4 million animals are waiting in shelters each year to get the loving, fur-ever homes they deserve.

To help with that effort, The TurfMutt Foundation has partnered with the Kentucky Humane Society to host the second annual Lucky’s Mutt Madness adoption event. Last year, we helped 11 lucky pups find their new homes, and we want to beat that record this year.

The pet adoption event is being held on Oct. 17 in Freedom Hall at the Kentucky Exposition Center during one of the largest trade shows in the United States, GIE+EXPO. Thousands of show attendees drive to GIE+EXPO, making it possible for many to take home a dog in need of a home. They have the heart to do it because they know what a yard means to a dog and a family. These are the people who make outdoor living possible.

If you aren’t attending GIE+EXPO, please consider adopting a pet at your local shelter. If adoption isn’t in the cards for you, there are always ways to help out the animals at your local shelter by volunteering or donating.
