New research from the National Association of Landscape Professionals indicates American’s “love affair” with their lawns is going strong. In celebration of Lawn Care Month, TurfMutt is here to share a few of the top findings from the study.

How do Americans feel about their lawn & green space?

  • 81% have a lawn
  • 79% say a lawn is an important feature when renting or buying a home
  • 47% say they entertain in their yards at least once a month
  • 57% use their yards for recreation at least monthly
  • 77% report relaxing in their yards at least once a month
  • 32% garden in their yards multiple times a week

Interestingly, a nice size yard ranks second (behind a renovated kitchen) in preferred home features. And surprisingly, younger Americans value their lawns more than their parents or grandparents. For millennials, a nice size lawn is the number one priority, out-ranking an updated kitchen.

Community green space is also important, according to the research. Americans report visiting public parks and playgrounds more often than movie theaters, pools/beaches, bowling alleys and museums.
