Itβs back to school season, and a new study has some advice for school administrators. Take learning outside for just one hour per week to benefit both students and teachers.
Researchers in England studied the effect of an outdoor learning program that included teaching outside at least one hour per week. The respondents reported a number of benefits to outdoor learning β including those associated with health and well-being as well as learning.
Schoolchildren reported feeling more engaged and positive about the learning experience. Many also told researchers that their well-being and memory were improved in the outdoor classroom. Teachers said the outdoor learning sessions helped engage all types of learners. They also reported improved job satisfaction and personal well-being.
