Attention teachers! TurfMutt has announced a new award that will send one lucky teacher to the National Science Teachers Association annual conference in Los Angeles next spring.

The new teacher contest will be held in conjunction with the “Be a Backyard Superhero” essay contest for kids, which launches this fall. To enter, K-5 students will submit essays on how they are helping TurfMutt and the Outdoor Powers combat the environmental villains (Carbon Creep, Dust Demon, Dr. Runoff and Heat Freak). One winner will earn their school a $10,000 grant to spruce up their school grounds or put in an outdoor classroom.

The winning teacher will be awarded a trip to the National Science Teachers Association annual conference in Los Angeles being held March 30 to April 2, 2017. Watch TurfMutt.com for contest entry rules and deadlines.

Also new this fall, a TurfMutt poster will be sent to over 80,000 schools urging teachers, students and parents to “Know Your Climate Zone.” Look for the informational poster at your child’s school! It will help you identify your climatic region so you can plant the right grass, shrubs, trees and flowering plants appropriate for your area.

Even during summer break, TurfMutt was hard at work sharing his message about caring for our living landscapes. He recently went on a “Paw it Forward” tour out West, where he visited the Equipment Dealers Association, Sellers Expositions (GIE+EXPO’s event management company) and filmed the first of several episodes of the new season of CBS’s Lucky Dog show, airing on Saturday mornings.
TurfMutt also has been sharing tips and holding giveaways during TurfMutt Tuesdays on his Facebook page. You can win prizes for sharing how your own TurfMutts enjoy their green spaces, and how you are helping promote and care for their living landscapes.

Watch TurfMutt.com and TurfMutt’s Facebook page for more details on new program developments, as well as TurfMutt’s travels, contests and special announcements.
