climate quest game

Have you checked out the new TurfMutt Climate Quest Game at TurfMutt.com? It’s an interactive game designed for kids in grades K-5. It teaches them about the outdoors and green spaces.

Kids start by entering their name and selecting their grade level (K-2 or 3-5). Then, the fun begins!

Children are instructed to answer the questions to help TurfMutt and the Outdoor Powers move through the various climate regions on a clickable map. The options range from the Northwest and West to the South and Northeast.

The questions in the K-2 game are primarily true or false. For example, true or false? Trees can breathe. The answer is true!

Trees soak up carbon dioxide from the air. Carbon dioxide is the gas that exists all around us, but too much of it is bad for the environment. When trees breathe in carbon dioxide, they breathe out oxygen, which we then breathe in.

The questions in the grades 3-5 version of Climate Quest are a little more difficult and include not only true and false questions, but also multiple choice options.

A true of false example is: Grass can absorb noise. The answer is true! Noise can be a problem in cities, because hard surfaces reverberate it. But grassy areas absorb sound.

If kids get an answer wrong, no worries! Climate Quest prompts them to try again. Throughout the game TurfMutt and the Outdoor Powers offer tips. For instance, here’s one from Water Warrior.
