TurfMutt in the car

Over the river and through the woods…to grandmother’s house we go! For many of us, the family dog is along for the ride when we travel for the holidays. TurfMutt loves a road trip as much as the next pooch. He has these tips for keeping your fur babies safe in the car this holiday season.

  • Record Keeper. It’s a good idea to pack your pup’s vet records just in case, including her proof of rabies vaccine.
  • Got ID? Make sure your dog’s microchip and tag information is up to date and includes your cell phone number.
  • Ride Safe. A crate or carrier is the safest spot for Spot in the car. Make sure it’s big enough that he can lie down, sit, stand and turn around. Put the crate in an area that is well-ventilated.
  • Pet Packing. You’ll want to pack a bag for your dog that includes her leash, waste bags, food, water, bowls, medication and first-aid. Throw in a favorite toy or dog blanket to make her feel right at home, even on the road.
  • Never Alone. Don’t ever leave your dog alone in a parked car. During the winter, it can be dangerously cold. Check the web for dog-friendly restaurants and hotels along your route so you can map out a pup-friendly route.

We want to see your road trip pics! Share your holiday travel stories with us on TurfMutt’s Facebook and Twitter pages. Happy howl-i-days from all of us at TurfMutt, and safe travels!
