Time is running out to enter TurfMutt’s Be a Backyard Superhero essay contest. In fact, entries are due next Monday, Jan. 23!
Kids in grades K-5 are eligible for the contest. To enter, they must describe how they are backyard superheroes just like TurfMutt and the Outdoor Powers. Encourage your child or student to enter and explain how they are supporting living landscapes and helping TurfMutt and his friends battle the environmental villains, Carbon Creep, Dust Demon, Dr. Runoff and Heat Freak.
For kids in the younger category (K-2) the story should be between 25-50 words. Students in grades 3-5 must submit an essay that is 100-150 words. To complete their entry, kids in all grades will draw pictures of their missions, including the downloadable character cutouts.
The grand prize is $10,000 to spruce up the green space at the winning child’s school. In addition, a teacher from the winning school will be awarded a trip to the NSTA Conference in Los Angeles this spring.
