TurfMutt in a superhero cape holding Outdoor Power character cutouts in his mouth

School’s out for holiday break! Now’s the perfect time for your child or student to work on their entry for TurfMutt’s Be a Backyard Superhero essay contest. Entries are due January 23 (that’s just around the corner!).

TurfMutt invites kids in grades K-5 to enter for a chance to win a $10,000 grant to complete a green makeover at their school. New this year, a lucky teacher will also win a trip to the National Science Teacher Association annual conference in LA.

To enter, students must describe how they are “Backyard Superheroes” just like TurfMutt and the Outdoor Powers. Children can stretch their imaginations and flex their environmental muscles as they describe how they help TurfMutt fight environmental villains like Carbon Creep, Dust Demon, Dr. Runoff and Heat Freak.

Kids will draw pictures of their missions and will also integrate the character cutouts into their drawings. Teachers and parents will enter the contest on behalf of their student or child via the form at this link.

The sky’s the limit when it comes to what your child can do for their entry. Last year, one of the winners wrote a rap song! Check out the winning entries from past years and get inspiration for your student’s entry.

Good luck!
